RIAA Platinum LP award for Eagles album Hell Freezes Over, which was released on Nov. 8, 1994 and by January 17, 1996 certified Platinum by the RIAA for one million copies sold. Note that this is a "Commemorative Edition" (see below for detail on what that means).
Famously named after Don Henley's 1980 proclamation that the group would get back together "when Hell freezes over," it became the title for the legendary group's second live album, coming 14 years after their last effort. It contained a new acoustic version of "Hotel California" featuring an added acoustic guitar and percussion introduction, numerous other major Eagles hits and new tunes "Love Will Keep Us Alive" and "Get Over It". The album went to #1 on the Billboard Top 200 Albums chart in the U.S. and #18 in the U.K. By 2014 the album would be certified 9x Multi-Platinum.*

Detailed Item Description: This is a RIAA Platinum award that would have been manufactured shortly after the certification date in 1996, making it approximately 28 years old. It is a Commemorative Edition award. These are official RIAA awards but they were produced in greater numbers than those presented to music industry recipients. They are often offered to fan club members and/or on the artist's website for a limited time in limited numbers. It is not known how many copies of this award were produced. For even more detail on commemorative awards, see our article here.
The award is in VG condition with only minor mars on the frame and plexiglass, and slight edge damage on the RIAA hologram label. There is no manufacturer sticker on this award.

Notes on the condition of all vintage RIAA awards like this one: Please do not buy this item if you want a brand new piece of memorabilia. These are historical artifacts from the year they were produced. As a result they may show signs of wear. Frankly, if you see a 20 to 50-year-old award purported to be in 100% perfect condition, it might be too good to be true. After all, an antique should have "good' wear. If not, you might want to question the piece.
As to where they came from, they could have been displayed in record label offices, recording studios, artist manager's offices, radio stations, private collector's homes and yes, of course, possibly the artist's or songwriter's home. Typically, we don't know all the places they may have been over the years other than what we've stated in the description.
Finally, a word on photos: Do let us know if you want photos of any other details on our pieces and we'll be happy to provide.
