This RIAA Video Award for The Rolling Stones Rock And Roll Circus is presented to and was personally owned by the group's long-time bassist Bill Wyman. This longform video was released on Sept. 1, 1996 and was certified Platinum by the RIAA on March 27, 1997 for 100,000 copies sold, which this award celebrates. This was acquired in a sale that Wyman himself organized that included a large amount of his personal Stones memorabilia. Evidence that it came from this sale will be included with this item.

This classic concert occurred Dec. 11, 1968 when the Stones invented a unique idea to launch their new album Beggar's Banquet. The idea was to throw a concert on a circus-set stage with a circus theme, complete with all manner of oddities. Fortunately for the lucky few attendees at this affair, in addition to the Stones performance some of the oddities included special guest appearances by Eric Clapton, Marianne Faithfull, John Lennon, Mitch Mitchell, Yoko Ono, Taj Mahal, Jethro Tull, and The Who, most of whom joined the Stones in wearing circus-related costumes. Lennon and some others went by the pseudonym "The Dirty Mac". The show would also mark the last time that Brian Jones would perform with the Stones, since he tragically died seven months later. See image above for the RIAA sales certification data of this video release*.

Also check out a Rock and Roll Circus theme collage with autographs of all five 1968-era Stones, including the hard-to-find Brian Jones autograph, here.

Notes on the condition of all vintage RIAA awards like this one: Please do not buy this item if you want a brand new piece of memorabilia. These are historical artifacts from the year they were produced. As a result they may show signs of wear. Frankly, if you see a 20 to 50-year-old award purported to be in 100% perfect condition, it might be too good to be true. After all, an antique should have "good' wear. If not, you might want to question the piece.

As to where they came from, they could have been displayed in record label offices, recording studios, artist manager's offices, radio stations, private collector's homes and yes, of course, possibly the artist's or songwriter's home. Typically, we don't know all the places they may have been over the years other than what we've stated in the description.

Finally, a word on photos: Our photos are zoomable so you can get a very good look. Do let us know if you want photos of any other details on our pieces and we'll be happy to provide.
