RIAA 25x Multi-Platinum Award for Michael Jackson's #1 album Thriller, which was released on Dec. 30, 1982. This is a rare opportunity to own a piece of the history of this album, which is currently the second best selling album in U.S. history and the best selling album in the world with sales estimated at 66 million. This RIAA award celebrates the album hitting the milestone of selling 25 million copies in the U.S., with the RIAA certifying it at 25x Multi-Platinum on July 7, 1997.
The album topped the Billboard 200, the UK Albums chart and charts in a dozen other countries. It produced seven Billboard Hot 100 top 10 singles: "The Girl Is Mine", "Billie Jean", "Beat It" (featuring Eddie Van Halen on a cameo guitar solo), "Wanna Be Startin' Something", "Human Nature", "P.Y.T. (Pretty Young Thing)" and of course the title track. It won a record eight Grammy awards in 1984 including Album Of The Year. By 2017 the album had sold over 33 million copies in the U.S. See image above for the extensive RIAA sales certification data of this album*.

That makes it approximately 21 years old. This award was given to an industry executive with KRB Music (a music distributor) and carefully kept since then. His signed and notarized letter of provenance will provided with purchase. The provenance letter can be seen in images with executive's name obscured for privacy. Item buyer will receive an non-obscured copy of the letter.
This award has its original backing paper and manufacturer's label from licensed RIAA award maker Ill-Eagle Enterprises. All components and serial number hologram are correct, indicating an original award. This award is in excellent condition with only a very minor mar or two on the frame.

Notes on the condition of all vintage RIAA awards like this one: Please do not buy this item if you want a brand new piece of memorabilia. These are historical artifacts from the year they were produced. As a result they may show signs of wear. Frankly, if you see a 20 to 50-year-old award purported to be in 100% perfect condition, it might be too good to be true. After all, an antique should have "good' wear. If not, you might want to question the piece.
As to where they came from, they could have been displayed in record label offices, recording studios, artist manager's offices, radio stations, private collector's homes and yes, of course, possibly the artist's or songwriter's home. Typically, we don't know all the places they may have been over the years other than what we've stated in the description.
Finally, a word on photos: Our photos are zoomable so you can get a very good look. Do let us know if you want photos of any other details on our pieces and we'll be happy to provide.
