Gerry Rafferty City To City United Artists Records label one million sold album award. The second solo album from the Scottish singer/songwriter, formerly of Stealers Wheel, was released on Jan. 20, 1978. The album produced the classic hits "Baker Street" and "Right Down The Line". While this is not a RIAA award, the album was in fact certified Platinum for one million copies sold by the RIAA in June 1978. The album reached #1 on Billboard Top 200 Album chart, #6 in the UK and in the top 10 in many other world music markets.

Detailed Item Description: This is a United Artists Records label award that would have been manufactured around 1978 making it about 46 years old. It is presented to radio and record executive Lee Abrams, who worked in radio and as a consultant to major record labels and industry companies including Capitol Records, Island Records, XM Radio, MTV and others from the 70s into the 2000s. A notarized letter of provenance from Abrams is included with this award (see image).
The award is in VG condition with all original components. It has some typical mars and scratches on the frame but is generally in VG condition otherwise. Its' original Dejay Products manufacturer sticker is missing off its' backing paper but there is adhesive residue in the size and shape of that manufacturer's sticker.

Notes on the condition of all vintage RIAA awards like this one: Please do not buy this item if you want a brand new piece of memorabilia. These are historical artifacts from the year they were produced. As a result they may show signs of wear. Frankly, if you see a 20 to 50-year-old award purported to be in 100% perfect condition, it might be too good to be true. After all, an antique should have "good' wear. If not, you might want to question the piece.
As to where they came from, they could have been displayed in record label offices, recording studios, artist manager's offices, radio stations, private collector's homes and yes, of course, possibly the artist's or songwriter's home. Typically, we don't know all the places they may have been over the years other than what we've stated in the description.
Finally, a word on photos: Our photos are zoomable so you can get a very good look. Do let us know if you want photos of any other details on our pieces and we'll be happy to provide.
