RIAA Platinum album award for Janet Jackson album Control, which was released on Jan. 27, 1986. It was certified Platinum by the RIAA on June 13, 1986 for one million copies sold.
Although it was her third studio album, it was the one that started it all for Janet. It went to #1 on the Billboard Top 200 Albums on the strength of the title track along with "What Have You Done for Me Lately", "Nasty", "Let's Wait Awhile", and "When I Think of You", which became her first #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. All five singles landed in the Top 5, making her the first female artist to achieve that feat with one album. It as nominated for the Album Of The Year Grammy and by 1989 was certified 5x Multi-Platinum by the RIAA for five million sold. Detailed Item Description: This is a first presentation RIAA Platinum award that would have been manufactured in 1986. That makes it approx. 37 years old. It is presented to Jim Daniels, a radio industry executive.
This award is in VG condition with only minor mars on the frame and plexiglass. It is all original but has been rebacked.

Notes on the condition of all vintage RIAA awards: Please do not buy this item if you want a brand new piece of memorabilia. These are historical artifacts from the year they were produced. As a result they may show signs of wear. Frankly, if you see a 20 to 50-year-old award purported to be in 100% perfect condition, it might be too good to be true. After all, an antique should have "good' wear. If not, you might want to question the piece.
