RIAA Gold Album award for Chicago album Chicago X. Released on June 1, 1976, the album was certified Gold by the RIAA a few weeks later on June 21 for 500,000 copies sold.
The album featured hit track "If You Leave Me Now", which topped the Billboard Hot 100. It also won the group a pair of Grammy awards for Best Pop Vocal Performance by a Duo, Group or Chorus, and Best Arrangement Accompanying Vocalists. Other singles included "Another Rainy Day in New York City" and "You Are On My Mind". The album reached #3 on the Billboard Top 200 Album chart and charted in many other countries and was also nominated for a Grammy award for Album Of The Year. By 1986 the album was certified 2x Multi-Platinum by the RIAA for two million copies sold.*

Detailed Item Description: This is a RIAA Gold Album award that would have been manufactured in 1976, making it approximately 50 years old. It is presented to Columbia Records A&R Department.
It is in VG condition with wear on the frame (including holes top and bottom that were used to affix the award to a wall) and mars on the plexiglass. The award is original and constructions details show it to have been made by the New York Frame & Picture Co. It has been rebacked.

Notes on the condition of all vintage RIAA awards like this one: Please do not buy this item if you want a brand new piece of memorabilia. These are historical artifacts from the year they were produced. As a result they may show signs of wear. Frankly, if you see a 20 to 50-year-old award purported to be in 100% perfect condition, it might be too good to be true. After all, an antique should have "good' wear. If not, you might want to question the piece.
As to where they came from, they could have been displayed in record label offices, recording studios, artist manager's offices, radio stations, private collector's homes and yes, of course, possibly the artist's or songwriter's home.
