MAY 5: On this day in 1966, the Mamas & the Papas were at #1 with “Monday, Monday”. It would be the group’s only #1 hit in the U.S. John Phillips said that he wrote the song in about 20 minutes. They would go on to win the 1967 Grammy for Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal.
MAY 6: Happy birthday to Bob Seger, born today in 1945!🎂 The Detroit rocker put his Silver Bullet Band together in 1973, which gave him more success on the national level. In addition to all the hits he has written for himself, he co-wrote the Eagle’s “Heartache Tonight”. Seger has sold over 75 million records worldwide! In 2004, he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. *Seger is bottom right.
MAY 7: Today in 1977, the Eagles were at #1 with “Hotel California “. It is considered their most famous song and the guitar solo shows up in many best of lists. The song also won the 1978 Grammy for Record of the Year.💿🔥
MAY 8: Happy birthday to Toni Tennille, born today in 1940!🎂🎤 She is best known as one-half of the duo Captain & Tennille. Before meeting Daryl Dragon, the Captain, she had success writing a musical, Mother Earth. She met Dragon in 1971 in San Francisco during auditions for Mother Earth. He had been playing with the Beach Boys and recommended Tennille to them for their next tour where she would play electric piano. They decided to go it as a duo and found quick success. In 1973, the duo release their self-financed record and ended up winning the 1975 Grammy Award for Record of the Year for "Love Will Keep Us Together". Most interestingly, Tennille sang backup on Pink Floyd's The Wall!

MAY 9: On this day in 1970, the Guess Who were at #1 with “American Woman”. It was their only time at the top of the charts. The song came about accidentally when Randy Bachman broke a string and began to play a heavy riff and other members joined in. A fan had recorded this little jam and presented it to the group afterwards, which led to the development of this now classic rock tune!🎸🎶🎸

MAY 10: Happy birthday to Dave Mason, born today in 1946!🎂🎸 Best known for his time with the band Traffic, which he co-founded, Mason has enjoyed a lengthy career working with artists such as Paul McCartney, Fleetwood Mac, Leon Russell, Eric Clapton, and many more. He is still out touring today!🎶
MAY 11: Today in 1981, Bob Marley passed away after a battle with cancer. 😢He began his music career in 1963 when he formed Bob Marley & the Wailers. Marley is considered one of the pioneers of reggae and he has influenced many artists over the years. His distinctive voice and songwriting gave his songs universal appeal. In 1977, Marley was diagnosed with cancer. After his death, his greatest hits album Legend was released in 1984 and became the best selling reggae album of all time. He has sold over 75 million records worldwide, making him one of the best selling artists ever. RIP
