Just a couple of highlights from this week in music history!

MAY 26: Happy birthday Stevie Nicks! The singer-songwriter renowned for her work with Fleetwood Mac and her solo career was born Stephanie Nicks on May 26, 1948, in Phoenix, Arizona. She discovered music and poetry early in life. In 1971, she formed Buckingham Nicks with Lindsey Buckingham. Although their 1973 album failed commercially, Mick Fleetwood recruited both for Fleetwood Mac in 1975.

With Fleetwood Mac, Nicks helped create the 1977 album Rumours, one of the world’s best-selling records. Her emotive vocals, mystical stage persona, and songwriting yielded classics like “Rhiannon,” “Dreams,” and “Landslide.”
In 1981, Nicks released her debut solo album, Bella Donna, which topped the Billboard 200 and featured hits such as “Edge of Seventeen” and “Leather and Lace.” Her solo work allowed more personal expression, showcasing poetic lyrics and dramatic arrangements. Over the following decades, she released albums, toured worldwide, and collaborated with artists.
Nicks has sold over 140 million records globally, earning numerous awards, including Grammy nominations and the Grammy Hall of Fame award. She is one of the few artists inducted twice into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. With her distinctive voice, timeless songs, and enduring style, Stevie Nicks remains a trailblazing icon whose influence spans generations.

MAY 29: Happy birthday to Noel Gallagher! The English singer, songwriter, and guitarist is best known as the chief songwriter and lead guitarist of the iconic rock band Oasis. Born on May 29, 1967, in Manchester, England, he played a pivotal role in shaping the Britpop movement of the 1990s. Alongside his younger brother Liam Gallagher, Noel helped lead Oasis to massive commercial and critical success with albums like Definitely Maybe (1994) and (What's the Story) Morning Glory? (1995). His songwriting, known for its anthemic choruses and melodic sensibility, produced classics such as “Wonderwall,” “Don’t Look Back in Anger,” and “Champagne Supernova.”

Despite Oasis's success, internal tensions—particularly between the Gallagher brothers—led to the band's breakup in 2009. Following the split, Noel launched his own solo project, Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds, which has released several acclaimed albums that blend rock with experimental and orchestral elements.
Noel Gallagher remains a major figure in British music, known for his sharp wit, candid interviews, and enduring influence. His work continues to resonate with fans worldwide, cementing his legacy as one of the most important songwriters of his generation.
