Just a couple of highlights from this week in music history!
JAN 15: Today in 1967: The Rolling Stones' performance of "Let's Spend the Night Together" on The Ed Sullivan Show in 1967 is one of their most famous television appearances. Due to the song's suggestive lyrics, the show's producers requested the band change the line to "Let's spend some time together." Reluctantly, Mick Jagger complied, visibly rolling his eyes during the performance. This moment highlighted the tension between rock 'n' roll's rebellious nature and mainstream media's conservative standards, further cementing the Stones' reputation as boundary-pushing rock icons.
JAN 24: Happy birthday to Neil Diamond born today in 1941! The “Sweet Caroline” legend has had a career as glittering as his signature stage outfits. Born in Brooklyn, New York, Diamond's knack for songwriting began in the Brill Building, penning hits like "I’m a Believer" for The Monkees before stepping into the spotlight himself. With a velvety voice and heartfelt lyrics, he became one of the best-selling musicians of all time, delivering classics like "Cracklin’ Rosie," "America," and "Love on the Rocks."
