RIAA Platinum LP award for Smash Mouth's Astro Lounge. This was their second studio album released on June 8, 1999. The album was certified Platinum® by the RIAA on Sept. 24, 1999 for one million copies sold.
The track "All Star" became a major hit, rising to #4 on the Billboard Hot 100 and becoming what is probably the group's best known song. It was also featured in the movie Shrek. The group also covered The Monkees "I'm A Believer" (penned by Neil Diamond) for that soundtrack. By 2002 Astro Lounge had been certified 3x Multi-Platinum™.

Detailed Item Description: This is a first presentation RIAA Platinum award that would have been manufactured sometime around 1999. That makes this award approx. 20 years old.
This award appears to be in Excellent condition, i.e. completely unaltered. Important to everyone, serious collector or music fan alike, is that this award is in excellent condition, with only a very, very minor scratch or two on the frame. The award is presented to music industry executive Jennifer Knight.
This award has one of the correct original manufacturer stickers for this era still attached to the back: Fitzgerald-Hartley, indicative of a never-opened award--a very desirable quality.

Notes on the condition of all vintage RIAA awards: Please do not buy this item if you want a brand new piece of memorabilia. These are historical artifacts from the year they were produced. As a result they may show signs of wear. Frankly, if you see a 20 to 50-year-old award purported to be in 100% perfect condition, it might be too good to be true. After all, an antique should have "good' wear. If not, you might want to question the piece.
As to where they came from, they could have been displayed in record label offices, recording studios, artist manager's offices, radio stations, private collector's homes and yes, of course, possibly the artist's or songwriter's home. Typically, we don't know all the places they may have been over the years other than what we've stated in the description.
Finally, a word on photos: Our photos are zoomable so you can get a very good look. Do let us know if you want photos of any other details on our pieces and we'll be happy to provide.
