RIAA 10x Multi-Platinum Album award for AC/DC's seminal Back In Black album, which was released on July 21, 1980 and by October 23, 1990 was certified 10x Multi-Platinum by the RIAA. This very large, impressive and rare award was given to the co-president of Sony/ATV Music Publishing.

One of the top 10 best selling albums of all time in the U.S., with worldwide sales of over 50 million, Back In Black classic tracks include the title cut, "You Shook Me All Night Long", "Hells Bells", "Shoot To Thrill" and more. The album peaked at #4 on the Billboard Top 200 Albums chart but has spent literally hundreds of weeks on the chart since its' release while also selling well all around the world.

Because the album hit 10 million sales in 1990, well before the RIAA launched its Diamond program in 1997, this is the type of award that was created to celebrate the milestone. By 2019 the album had been certified an amazing 25x Multi-Platinum by the RIAA. See image above for all its RIAA sales certifications of this album through the years*.

Detailed Item Description: This is a first presentation RIAA 10x Multi-Platinum award that would have been manufactured sometime between 1990-95 based on RIAA certification dates, making it approximately 25-30 years old. The award is presented to Rick Krim, then co-president of Sony/ATV Music Publishing.

The award is in Excellent condition with only a few minor mars on the frame and plexiglas. In addition to its unique design, it features a high quality gloss black frame not usually seen on "R hologram" awards, which usually had a black plastic covered wood frame that often ages poorly. The award has been rebacked. The reason is not know although one likely explanation is that its' original backing paper was damaged during handling since the award is so large.

Notes on the condition of all vintage RIAA awards like this one: Please do not buy this item if you want a brand new piece of memorabilia. These are historical artifacts from the year they were produced. As a result they may show signs of wear. Frankly, if you see a 20 to 50-year-old award purported to be in 100% perfect condition, it might be too good to be true. After all, an antique should have "good' wear. If not, you might want to question the piece.

As to where they came from, they could have been displayed in record label offices, recording studios, artist manager's offices, radio stations, private collector's homes and yes, of course, possibly the artist's or songwriter's home. Typically, we don't know all the places they may have been over the years other than what we've stated in the description.

Finally, a word on photos: Do let us know if you want photos of any other details on our pieces and we'll be happy to provide.
