BPI (British Phonographic Industry) Gold LP award for The Who's album Odds & Sods. The album was released on Oct. 1, 1974 and was certified Gold in the U.K. by BPI in 1976 for £250,000 worth sold. The measure for BPI gold certification in the 70s was the monetary value of records sold, much like the RIAA "white matte" awards of the 60s and early 70s.
The release featured various previously recorded studio outtakes and rarities. Describing the album he compiled, Who bassist John Entwistle told Rolling Stone in 1974: "I tried to arrange it like a parallel sort of Who career – what singles we might have released and what album tracks we might have released." The release went to #8 on the Billboard Top 200 Albums chart and #10 in the UK. New track "Long Live Rock" appeared on the album and reached #48 on the UK Singles chart and #54 on the Billboard Hot 100.

Detailed Item Description: This BPI Gold award is presented to producer John Jansen, who worked not only with The Who, but also a wide range of artists including Blondie, Blue Oyster Cult, Eric Clapton, Joe Cocker, Jimi Hendrix, Procol Harum, Billy Squier, Bonnie Tyler and more. This is a first presentation BPI Gold award that would have been manufactured in 1976 making it approximately 44 years old.
Finally, this award is in Good condition with some fairly significant wear on the gold disc and some fading of the album cover miniature. Note that the glass has also been changed out to lighter weight plexiglas, which is easy to do on these awards given their open back design.

Notes on the condition of all vintage awards like this one: Please do not buy this item if you want a brand new piece of memorabilia. These are historical artifacts from the year they were produced. As a result they may show signs of wear. Frankly, if you see a 20 to 50-year-old award purported to be in 100% perfect condition, it might be too good to be true. After all, an antique should have "good' wear. If not, you might want to question the piece.
As to where they came from, they could have been displayed in record label offices, recording studios, artist manager's offices, radio stations, private collector's homes and yes, of course, possibly the artist's or songwriter's home. Typically, we don't know all the places they may have been over the years other than what we've stated in the description.
