RIAA 5x Multi-Platinum Album award for the Whitney Houston (1963-2012) Whitney album. Her second studio album, released on June 2, 1987, the album was certified 5x Multi-Platinum for 5 million copies sold on Nov. 20, 1987, which turned out only to be the beginning success for this massively popular album.
The album produced five Top 10 Billboard singles including "I Wanna Dance with Somebody (Who Loves Me)", "Didn't We Almost Have It All", "So Emotional" and "Where Do Broken Hearts Go", the first four of which hit #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. This made Houston the first female artist to achieve that feat. It also extended her string of #1 singles to seven. The album itself hit #1 on the Billboard Top 200 Albums and UK Albums charts, along with the top spot on many other world music markets. It also garnered three Grammy nominations. Detailed Item Description:
This is an original first presentation RIAA award from around 1987, making it 33 years old. It is presented to music industry advisor Richard Weidenbaum.
The award is in VG to Excellent condition with only a couple of very minor mars on the plexiglas. While its' original manufacturer sticker has fallen off, the unmistakable size and shape adhesive residue of a Creative Glassics sticker remains on the lower right of the back, indicating a high likelihood of a completely original, unopened award.

Notes on the condition of all vintage RIAA awards like this one: Please do not buy this item if you want a brand new piece of memorabilia. These are historical artifacts from the year they were produced. As a result they may show signs of wear. Frankly, if you see a 20 to 50-year-old award purported to be in 100% perfect condition, it might be too good to be true. After all, an antique should have "good' wear. If not, you might want to question the piece.
As to where they came from, they could have been displayed in record label offices, recording studios, artist manager's offices, radio stations, private collector's homes and yes, of course, possibly the artist's or songwriter's home.
