RIAA Platinum Album Award for Ugly Kid Joe EP As Ugly As They Wanna Be. The album was released on April 8, 1991 and by March 20, 1992 was certified Platinum by the RIAA.

The album contained "Madman" and "Everything About You" with the latter hitting #9 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and later being used in the film Wayne's World. The album rose to #4 on the Billboard Top 200 Albums chart and #9 in the UK, and it also charted on other world charts. It also had the distinction of being the first EP (or "Short Form Album" in RIAA lingo) to go RIAA Multi-Platinum when it reached 2x Multi-Platinum later in 1992 for two million sold. See image above for RIAA sales certifications of this EP*.

Detailed Item Description: This RIAA 2x Multi-Platinum EP award is a first presentation award that would have been manufactured in 1992, making it 30 years old. It is presented to Dan Phippen, a promotions and marketing executive who worked with TVT, Mercury, MCA and others.

This award is in VG condition with only minor mars on the plexiglass and frame. It is all original with unopened backing paper (has some stains, none of which affect the frontal appearance of the award) with Ill Eagle manufacturer's sticker.

Notes on the condition of all vintage RIAA awards like this one: Please do not buy this item if you want a brand new piece of memorabilia. These are historical artifacts from the year they were produced. As a result they may show signs of wear. Frankly, if you see a 20 to 50-year-old award purported to be in 100% perfect condition, it might be too good to be true. After all, an antique should have "good' wear. If not, you might want to question the piece.

As to where they came from, they could have been displayed in record label offices, recording studios, artist manager's offices, radio stations, private collector's homes and yes, of course, possibly the artist's or songwriter's home. Typically, we don't know all the places they may have been over the years other than what we've stated in the description.
