RIAA Platinum 45 award for Bonnie Tyler single "Total Eclipse Of The Heart". Released on June 12, 1983 in the U.S., the single was certified Gold by the RIAA on Oct, 3, 1983 and Platinum on Sept. 18, 2001. This is likely a case in which then-official award maker Creative Glassics made the Platinum level award before the track was actually certified Platinum. It's also possible, given the clear success of this single, that there is a date error on the RIAA website. This is the second time we've had an award at the Platinum level in our inventory presented to a bonafide radio industry executive.

The track appeared on Tyler's fifth studio album entitled Faster Than the Speed of Night. Written by Jim Steinman, it went to #1 on the Billboard Hot 100, the UK Top Singles and many other music charts around the world. Tyler was also nominated for the Grammy award for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance for the track. See image above for RIAA sales certifications of this single*.

Detailed Item Description: This is a first presentation RIAA Platinum single award that would have been manufactured in 1983 which makes this award approximately 40 years old. It is a first presentation award that is presented to the late Ed Lambert of KWOD radio Sacramento. Ed was a veteran radio programmer who worked at KHKS Dallas, WZEE (Z104) Madison, WI, KWOD Sacramento, and on-air at KDWB Minneapolis. This is a Platinum single award issued when the RIAA standard for Platinum singles was two million sold, not one million as it evolved to later.

This award is in VG condition, with only a some typical scratches and mars on the frame.  The backing paper includes a note to Ed from "Burt" who thanks Ed for his help in making "this record happen".  All internal components also appear original and unaltered and although the backing paper appears original with a Creative Glassics manufacturer sticker, the frame is not a correct style Creative Glassics floater frame indicating that the award may have been reframed. This is not clear though given the existence of an orignial note to the recipient.

Notes on the condition of all vintage RIAA awards like this one: Please do not buy this item if you want a brand new piece of memorabilia. These are historical artifacts from the year they were produced. As a result they may show signs of wear. Frankly, if you see a 20 to 50-year-old award purported to be in 100% perfect condition, it might be too good to be true. After all, an antique should have "good' wear. If not, you might want to question the piece.

As to where they came from, they could have been displayed in record label offices, recording studios, artist manager's offices, radio stations, private collector's homes and yes, of course, possibly the artist's or songwriter's home. Typically, we don't know all the places they may have been over the years other than what we've stated in the description.

Finally, a word on photos: Our photos are zoomable so you can get a very good look. Do let us know if you want photos of any other details on our pieces and we'll be happy to provide.
