Australian label award from January 1979 to Chicago for the Chicago X album for platinum level sales in Australia. This award predates Australian ARIA awards (Australia's recorded music sales awards, similar to RIAA awards for the Australia market). At this point in time, label awards were the only sales awards issued in Australia.

Chicago X, which featured the hit "If You Leave Me Now", the group's first #1 in all of Australia, Canada, Ireland, Netherlands, U.K. and the U.S. The track also won a Grammy award for the group and the album was nominated for Album Of The Year as well.

This is a CBS Records Australia label award for the album made in 1979 (note that this is not a RIAA award). Its presentation plate reads "Presented to Chicago by CBS Records Australia for Platinum Record and Tape Sales of Chicago X, January 1979" and features the distinctive Chicago logo. It is in VG condition with only minor mars on the metal frame and slight tarnishing of the presentation plate.

Notes on the condition of all vintage RIAA and/or record awards like this one: Please do not buy this item if you want a brand new piece of memorabilia. These are historical artifacts from the year they were produced. As a result they may show signs of wear. Frankly, if you see a 20 to 50-year-old award purported to be in 100% perfect condition, it might be too good to be true. After all, an antique should have "good' wear. If not, you might want to question the piece.

As to where they came from, they could have been displayed in record label offices, recording studios, artist manager's offices, radio stations, private collector's homes and yes, of course, possibly the artist's or songwriter's home. Typically, we don't know all the places they may have been over the years other than what we've stated in the description.
